Job Summary:  
The Nurse Manager assists the Administrator with planning, implementing and managing surgical services. The Nurse Manager serves as a backup for the Administrator in his/her absence.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement and coordinate staff development programs. 
  • Coordinate patient care needs, including supplies, instruments, and equipment according to physician requests and individual patient needs. 
  • Adhere to and support the mission, vision, values, philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of the Center. 
  • Manage clinical staff by training, supervision, assigning duties, and assisting in smooth functioning of the departments. 
  • Promote cost effective use of supplies, equipment, time and physical facilities. 
  • May meet with manufacturer’s reps, order supplies and equipment as needed. 
  • Function as a resource person for all staff in the ASC. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures, regulatory standards and technological advances that affect patient care. 
  • Coordinate with the Medical Director and Administrator to plan structured clinician orientation and ongoing staff education.  
  • Develop and deliver in-service presentations for ASC staff. 
  • Perform as back up for clinical staffing when needed.  
  • Assist in the development and review of policies and procedures. 
  • Formulate and maintain a positive working relationship with patients, families, peers, medical staff, and all other personnel. 
  • Act as a liaison between departments, co-workers, supervisors, and physicians. 
  • Understand chain of command, and follow proper lines of communication, as well as positive working relationships. 
  • At all times respect the confidentiality of patient, Center, and physician related information. 
  • Adapt to changes in a positive, professional manner. 
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment for patients and staff. 
  • Assist Administrator with all aspects of continuous regulatory readiness. 
  • Direct the orientation of nursing staff and support personnel. 
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and educational programs at the Center, as well as outside sources as required.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Two (2) years’ related experience and/or training in perioperative areas (Pre-op, OR, PACU), or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification. 
  • Must be able to make quick assessments of patients and be able to handle emergency situations appropriately. 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and have an ability to work compatibly with all physicians and staff. Possess strong organizational skills and a clear understanding of the importance of efficiency and cost effectiveness in an outpatient surgery center. 
  • Registered Nurse must have the knowledge and clinical skills to perform the job duties of a Pre-op, OR, and PACU nurse. 
Education: 
  • Current nursing license for the State of Indiana. 
  • Graduate of a fully accredited school of nursing.  
 
Working Conditions: 
General working conditions include working inside in an office or clinical setting with comfortable temperatures year-round. There may occasionally be exposure to blood and body fluids, and policies are in place for Universal Precautions identifying risks and appropriate barrier protection.  
 
Physical Requirements:
 
Physical requirements include visual acuity for chart review and equipment operation, the ability to stand/walk for up to eight (8) hours per day; bend, stoop, twist; assist patients in turning, rising from stretcher and recliners; assisting patients in and out of wheelchairs; assist with moving on and off the operating room table. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance, and 50 pounds without assistance, and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
